Installing Felt Right Room Dividers
ACT/Drop Ceiling
- Pop out the decorative cutouts from your partition, then mark the ceiling 22" apart using the panel holes as a guide. Attach and twist the ACT clips into place.
- Attach the panel connectors to the pre-drilled holes, measure and cut your cable leaving 1-3" of slack, then insert the cable into the chrome connector.
- Hook the connector onto the ACT clip, check that the panel is level, then trim any remaining excess cable.
Flat Ceiling
- Pop out the cutouts, mark the ceiling 22" apart, drill a 5/32" hole, insert the drywall anchor, and screw the base into place.
- Attach the panel connectors to the pre-drilled holes, then measure and cut the cable with 1-3" of extra length.
- Insert each cable into its panel connector using the spring-loaded top, then check that everything is level.
- Trim the remaining slack once you're happy with the height and alignment.

Do both room divider types offer the same acoustic performance?
They do. Suspended and anchored dividers both have an NRC of 0.50, absorbing 50 percent of the sound that hits them. What actually separates the two is form, not function: suspended dividers hang free of the floor, while anchored dividers have cables that run floor to ceiling giving a more architectural presence. Pick based on your ceiling, floor space, and design style, then run the Acoustics Calculator to figure out how many dividers you need.
What's the difference between the flat suspended divider and the modular suspended divider?
Less than you'd think, it mostly comes down to how it ships. Both hang from the same cable suspension hardware and carry the same 0.50 NRC. The flat version ships in one seamless piece via freight, while the modular version ships in three snap-together panels that qualify for standard ground delivery, with visible seams where the panels meet. Choose modular on a standalone order to save on freight, choose flat if freight's already happening for other items or you’re ordering multiple flat dividers.
Can I install a floor-to-ceiling divider under a drop-grid ceiling?
Not quite, anchored dividers need a flat drywall surface at the top, and drop-grid (ACT) ceilings are not substantial enough for the anchored divider hardware. Suspended dividers are available with hardware for either flat drywall or ACT ceilings. Take a quick look at what ceiling type you have to decide which divider system works best for you.
Which type makes sense for a leased office or a space I might have to leave?
Both work well in a lease, since neither one requires permanent construction. Suspended dividers have simple reconfigurable install options with ACT clips or flat ceiling anchors, with two mounting points for either option. Anchored dividers take more install effort, but they're worth it for a more architectural look and substantial feel.Neither install is permanent, its more about what look you want and the ceiling type of your space.

Frequently Asked Questions
Felt Right tiles are premium, sound-absorbing wall panels made from high-density engineered PET felt. Designed with both acoustic performance and modern design in mind, each tile features a soft, wool-like texture and crisp, chamfered edges for a clean, dimensional finish. At 9mm (3/8 inch) thick, these acoustic tiles are durable, attractive, and easy to install.
Made in the USA, every Felt Right tile is composed of approximately 50% recycled plastic — primarily single-use water bottles — broken down and sterilized without harmful chemicals. The fibers are dyed, felted, and precision-cut into a variety of sizes and shapes to support creative wall treatments for homes, offices, classrooms, and commercial interiors.
Key Features of Felt Right Wall Tiles:
- Material: 100% PET felt (minimum 50% recycled content)
- Thickness: Standard 9mm (⅜ inch); 18mm available for custom orders
- Finish: Chamfered edges for a seamless, dimensional look
- Sound Absorption: NRC rating of 0.35 (absorbs ~35% of ambient sound)
- Eco-Friendly: Helps divert plastic waste from landfills
- Applications: Ideal for acoustic panels, pin boards, creative walls, and design accents
Yes! Felt Right tiles can be trimmed to any size using a razor blade and a straight edge (see example here). For the cleanest results, cutting along the engraved pattern lines is easiest, but any custom dimension works fine. For more control or complex shapes, we recommend:
- A serrated utility knife for general cuts
- Standard woodworking tools or a jigsaw for straight edges and angles
- A plywood template and a router with a flush-cut pattern bit for curves
Felt Right tiles have a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.35, meaning they absorb approximately 35% of the sound that hits them. When installed across a significant portion of your wall, they can greatly reduce echo, soften harsh acoustics, and create a more comfortable listening environment.
For even greater sound absorption, Felt Right also offers a range of high-performance acoustic solutions beyond wall tiles. Our ceiling baffles come in three styles, each with a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) ranging from 0.65 to 0.80. For maximum acoustic performance, our Wood Slat Ceiling Panels deliver an impressive NRC of 0.85. We also offer Wood Slat Wall Panels, which combine aesthetic warmth with sound control, and feature an NRC of 0.55.

Felt Right tiles are designed to be low-maintenance and easy to clean.
Routine Cleaning:
- Use a vacuum hose attachment to remove dust and lint
- A lint roller can also work for quick surface touch-ups
Spot Cleaning:
- Wipe with a damp cloth
- For more stubborn marks, spray with a common household cleaner and gently wipe down
- Avoid oversaturation to preserve the felt's integrity
Disinfection (Commercial Environments):
- Tiles can be disinfected using multi-surface cleaning sprays or non-abrasive disinfectant wipes
- Ideal for schools, offices, and shared workspaces
Felt Right adhesive tabs are conformable and will adhere to most surfaces, including textured walls. We recommend switching to our Commercial Grade adhesives at checkout for heavy textures like brick, cement, and cinderblock. We also recommend adding construction adhesive for secure bonding if needed.
