Felt Tile FAQs
What are the tiles made from?

Felt Right tiles are made from 100% PET co-polyester material with at least 50% recycled material - which is equivalent to 4 PET water bottles per tile.

Where are Felt Right tiles made?

Felt Right tiles are all made in our workshop located in beautiful Salt Lake City, right along the majestic Wasatch Range (an area we’re proud to call home!).

What are the Felt Right tile sizes?

Felt Right tiles come in 5 distinct sizes that are designed to work together in our Design Studio:

Square (12x12)
Triangle (12x12)
Shiplap (24x6)
Half (12x6)
Quarter (6x6)

Please note that dimensions are nominal and exact dimensions are slightly smaller (for example: 12” tiles are actually 11 ⅞”). See product pages for exact dimensions

What is the tile thickness?

Felt Right tiles are ⅜ inch or 9mm thick.

How much do Felt Right tiles cost?

12x12 squares are $6.99 (Blank Pattern) and $7.50 (Engraved Patterns).
Shiplap tiles are $7.50.
Triangle and Half tiles are $3.99.
Quarter tiles are $2.25.

Are adhesive tabs included in my Felt Right order?

Every order of Felt Right tiles includes enough adhesive tabs for easy installation – plus a few extra for trial and error.

Can I purchase extra adhesive tabs?

Yes! To purchase extra adhesive tabs, visit our Shop section.

Will the tiles damage my walls?

Actually, no! Felt Right tiles utilize our proprietary, paint-safe adhesives, and are safe for painted walls. Upon removal, the adhesive is designed to first release from the tile, leaving the 1”x1” adhesive squares on the wall. These squares are then easily removed by rolling them off with your thumb or fingers.

Can I relocate a tile once it’s in place?

Absolutely. We include extra adhesive tabs in each order, allowing you to reposition one or two tiles during the installation process. If you find you need to move more tiles, you can always order extra adhesive squares.

Do the tiles stick to textured walls?

Felt Right adhesive tabs are conformable and will adhere to most surfaces, including painted cinder block and textured walls.

How effective are felt right tiles at dampening sound?

Felt Right tiles have an NRC (noise reduction coefficient) of .35 – which means that they absorb about 35% of an area’s ambient sound.

Do the tiles work with pins?

Yes, the tiles are made from dense PET felt board – and are simply perfect for pinning and re-pinning!

How do you clean Felt Right tiles?

To remove dust, all you need is a quick, occasional touch-up with a vacuum wand or hose. For spot cleaning, simply use a damp rag, or spray the tiles with any common household cleaner and wipe down. For high-traffic, commercial applications, Felt Right tiles can also be regularly dis-infected with commonly available cleaning products.

Can tiles be cut to fit specific sizes?

Yes, they can. Felt Right tiles cut most easily along engraved pattern lines, but they can be cut to any dimension with a craft knife and a straight edge.

How long does it take to ship an order?

Most orders received before 2 PM Mountain Time ship the same day! Occasionally, this lead time may be extended by up to 5 business days for a particularly large order, or if we’re back-ordered on a specific tile.

Do you ship internationally?

Unfortunately, no. Not yet.

Can I return my order?

Of course! You can return your order for any reason in the first 100 days after purchase.

How effective are Felt Right tiles at dampening sound?

Felt Right tiles have an NRC(noise reduction coefficient) of .35.  That means that they roughly absorb 35% of sound that they come in contact with.  Although they are not designed as specialized sound proofing material, they will have a noticeable effect on your space.  Of course, this is also partially dependent on the surface area installed.

How should Felt Right tiles best be positioned in order to dampen sound?

Typically, sound waves will reverberate between parallel surfaces, so positioning them on a wall opposite of another parallel wall will be most effective in interrupting sound wave reverberation.

Do Felt Right tiles reduce sound transmission from or through a wall?

Yes, Felt Right tiles will definitely reduce and muffle sound transmission from an adjacent space and we have multiple customer reviews highlighting this benefit. However, we have not fully tested and quantified Felt Right tiles Sound Transmission Coefficient (STC), so we want to be careful not to over-promise in this area.

What if I want to add new tiles to an existing design?

Certain issues need to be considered if you are planning to add new tiles to an existing design.

First, in May, 2020, we changed finished tile dimensions slightly to improve quality.  For example, 12" tiles became 11 7/8."  This is not noticeable except when trying to add new tiles to an existing design.  So if your existing design dates before May of 2020, contact customer service before ordering new tiles.

Second, we do experience some dye-lot variations in certain colors which can be noticeable when a new tile is placed next to an old one.  This is most evident with some of the grey colors. If you are ordering new tiles that will go next to existing tiles, just give us a quick heads-up so we can help make sure you don't experience significant dye-lot issues.

Can the tiles be used in ceiling applications?

Yes, Felt Right tiles can be used effectively in ceiling applications and the Felt Right adhesive tabs will also work to secure your tiles in an overhead configuration.

Can Felt Right tiles be used in flooring applications?

No, we do not recommend Felt Right tiles for flooring applications.

Do Felt Right tiles meet flammability requirements for commercial applications?

Yes, Felt Right tiles are made with material that has undergone ASTM E-84 testing and is considered a Class B material for the purposes of commercial specifications.

Do Felt Right tiles emit any harmful chemicals into the air?

No. First of all, Felt Right tiles do not contain any chemicals or materials that are considered harmful to human health.  They are made from 100% PET which is the same material found in water bottles.  Our materials have also been tested to confirm that they do not emit any harmful gasses into the environment.

Will quilting fabric designs stick to Felt Right tiles without pins?

No, quilting designs will not stick to Felt Right tiles without being pinned up, but many quilters do use Felt Right tiles as pinboards to showcase their designs.
