Working From Home With Felt Right

As a result of shifting the work model to work-from-home, many of us have had to create home offices on the fly. Whether you’re converting a spare bedroom, dining space, or any other part of your home into your new office, it can be difficult to adjust to this new workspace.

Even before the pandemic, companies and employees began to gravitate toward a work from home (WFH) model. While this transition is challenging for some businesses and industries, there are several advantages, such as cutting out commutes, fewer office distractions, more flexible schedules, and a more comfortable work environment. The work-from-home model can even increase efficiency.

As a result of this shifting work model, many of us have had to create home offices on the fly. Whether you’re converting a spare bedroom, dining space, or any other part of your home into your new office, it can be difficult to adjust to this new workspace. How do you separate your home and work? How can you make your workspace feel both enjoyable and productive? Don’t worry—we’re here to help.

In this blog, we look at how the new work-from-home model changes the ways we live and do business and how our high-quality and versatile felt squares help you get the most out of your new home workspace.

THE SHIFT TO WORKING FROM HOME

With the rapid spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and advancing digital technologies, many people are reevaluating the environments they live and work in. As a result, the established, modern world is being affected like never before.

Design industries need creative solutions to keep people working. In this environment, companies are scrambling to find technical solutions, such as improved filtration of mechanical systems, natural ventilation, and space configurations to improve occupant health during isolation.

MAKING THE MOST OF WORKING FROM HOME WITH FELT BOARDS

In recent years, the amount of time we spend in our homes has increased significantly. With many people working from home and children attending school virtually, loss of concentration (from ambient noise and background voices) can lead to a lack of productivity and increased stress. Some people have also become aware of their lack of transitional space to accommodate home offices and classrooms, especially in apartments and other modest-sized homes.

Most people function better when their workspace and relaxation space aren’t in the same room, but a lot of homes just don’t have enough rooms for a dedicated office. This makes attaining a work-life balance increasingly difficult. Telecommuters have found a simple and effective solution by using soundproof partition walls to create separate spaces for work and school within their home.

These rooms are space-efficient, temporary, easily moveable, and provide an aesthetically engaging work environment. When space isn’t a problem, but noise is, individual rooms can be soundproofed with soundproof wall tiles to provide an extra level of separation between your workspace and relaxation space.

ACOUSTIC DESIGN CHANGES IN OFFICE SPACES

After spending months working from home, many of us may not be able to remember the unwanted noises in the office: the background conversations, rowdy laughter, heavy footsteps, munching on snacks, creaking furniture, and the never-ending hum of printers.

At some point, most of us will return to the office and its unwanted noises--but these spaces might sound a bit different. In order to make the office a safer environment for everyone, they may need a few design changes. An open office layout, which has become common to encourage communication and collaboration, presents a challenge for many employers looking to bring their employees back to the office. Partition walls may help reduce the spread of infectious diseases in open-plan offices, as does ensuring clean air circulation from a high-quality HVAC system.

While these changes are driven by practical goals of health and safety, they also provide an opportunity to create interesting and functional results. Incorporating aesthetically pleasing acoustic material on existing surfaces, like adhesive felt tiles (in addition to new partitions), will help balance the office’s acoustic needs and the appeal of the work environment.

Changes in how businesses function have caused many of us to rethink the way we live and work, challenging the status quo. This is, in turn, drives the need for new and creative solutions to boost health, well-being, focus, productivity, and overall quality of life.

INSTALLING FELT RIGHT TILES

Installing felt wall tiles in your home or office is surprisingly simple. Follow these five simple steps to give a splash of life and color to your workspace:

1. Level.

First, you’ll want to map out your tiles. Use a level or object with a long, flat surface and mark where the top edge will be with a pencil.

2. Peel.

Peel the adhesive tabs from the backing and use them on the backside of the tile. Smooth out the tab with your thumb or a flat object and then peel off the opposite side backer.

3. Align.

Align the top of your Felt Right tile with the leveled line and slowly lower it into place. It can be helpful to have the help of a friend here to get an extra set of eyes on the alignment.

4. Press.

Firmly press the tile to the surface of the wall and hold with pressure for about 30 seconds. Keep an eye on the alignment as you’re pressing the tile to the wall.

5. Enjoy.

This is the best part. Take a step back and simply enjoy the visual texture, color, and improved sound of your space. Upkeep is also surprisingly easy. If needed, you can vacuum your felt tiles once a year and simply dab the surface with a dry cloth if it ever gets wet.
